Abstract

The monolithic, cost-centric “supply China” sourcing paradigm has collapsed, exposed by geopolitical shocks and systemic fragility. However, many firms remain trapped by a legacy supply chain mindset (SCM)—a path-dependent focus on short-term efficiency that erodes long-term resilience. This study introduces the Strategic Value Chain Architecture (SVCA) as a superior framework for the post-globalization era. Through a mixed-methods investigation using executive surveys and case studies, this study demonstrates that SVCA—operationalized through node diversification and digital orchestration—significantly enhances operational resilience (β = 0.47, p < .001) and yields a 5.8% increase in return on assets. Crucially, legacy SCM acts as a powerful negative moderator, creating an “efficiency trap” that hinders SVCA adoption. The findings argue that competitive advantage in fragmented markets is no longer merely sourced but is architected. By leveraging cognitive AI and blockchain, firms can transcend brittle logistics to achieve dynamic reconfiguration. This study provides a definitive roadmap for evolving from cost-focused procurement to advantage-generating architectural designs.
